LifeWise Abstinence
&
STI Education

Care Net promotes and supports sexual abstinence until marriage among youth through its LifeWise Program. LifeWise services are available free of charge to churches, schools, and any youth-serving organizations. Care Net will also partner with parents to provide neighborhood programs in homes or at Care Net’s facility on the east side of Madison.
Care Net’s LifeWise programs do not have to replace normal youth programming but may be scheduled simultaneously on a separate day or night. Homes are an optional setting. All volunteer Lifewise educators will have signed the Care Net statement of Christian faith as part of the application process.
Care Net’s LifeWise program explores sexuality in the context of life goals and relationships. In church settings, additional information may be added. Based on research, Care Net uses important strategies to increase program effectiveness such as:
• training college students and young adults as program educators because same generation role models can make a significant difference in helping youth decide to delay sex until marriage.
• including parent/child activities with each lesson in order to increase parent-child connections and thus youth’s ability to delay sex.
• using curricula appropriate for the age and backgrounds of the specific youth served.
• teaching eight lessons over a period of several weeks so that youth have the opportunity to reflect on several important topics and to personalize the information discussed.
